Chih-Yu Chang

I am a PhD student in Mathematics at Imperial College London, supervised by Prof. Kelly Zhang and co-supervised by Prof. Andrew Duncan. My research lies at the intersection of statistics and machine learning, with interests in sequential decision making, Bayesian optimization, and statistical learning.

Before joining Imperial, I earned an MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a BSc in Mathematics from National Tsing Hua University. I have also worked with Dr. Ming-Chung Chang at the Institute of Statistical Science, Academia Sinica.

Research

My current and recent work focuses on methods for learning and decision making from limited or distributed data, including:

  • sequential decision making and bandit inference;
  • Bayesian optimization with human or model-in-the-loop feedback;
  • federated and collaborative statistical learning;
  • experimental design for black-box models.
